Award winning historical conversion, The Armoury, Kinver

In 2007 Dave Marsh, a well-known local architect of Marsh Associates, enlisted Avey & Son to refurbish a listed 15th Century village armoury on Kinver High Street into business premises to house his architectural practice. The building had been divided into two rented dwellings that had last been refurbed in 1970. It featured unusual characteristics like a red, yellow and green colour kitchen along with a water feature situated under the stairs.

With the aid of excellent working drawings and a close working relationship with both Dave Marsh and David Burton-Pie MBE, chief conservation officer for South Staffordshire District Council Avey set about returning The Armoury to its former glory. Upon completion, Mr Burton-Pie nominated the project for the 2008 South Staffordshire Conservation and Design Awards. Thanks to everyone’s hard work Avey won the Commercial, Historical Building Conversion category.
